I Don't Have My Shit Together + Free Wallpaper

“I don’t want to be a Christian writer, if it means writing from the heart and then hitting backspace until it feels safe again.

I don’t want to be a Christian writer if it means I need to act like I have my shit together. Because the truth is, I don’t.”

I think there’s a real temptation amongst us religious people to make a virtue of hypocrisy. To put a lid on the ugly reality of our lives, to wear a mask that will make us acceptable to our fellow religious people. But I also believe that there’s something freeing in removing our masks, acknowledging our neediness, admitting that we’re not ok.

I wrote a thing a few months ago called “I Don’t Have My Shit Together“.  I talked about a lot of these things — about how our need to appear perfect leaves us feeling isolated, about how “setting a good example” should be more about vulnerability than good behavior. When I wrote that, a lot of people commented and emailed me to tell me they felt the same way, and I realized I wasn’t alone.

So I decided to make a shirt for those of us who don’t have our shit together, for those of us who find freedom in admitting it to each other. The custom design was hand lettered by my friend Andrea at The Organic Bird. The shirts are $20 each + shipping and are printed on high-quality material. But this is a limited time offer; you have less than two weeks to get one of these.

You can order yours right here:

In addition to getting a sweet custom tee, your purchase will help support Redemption Pictures. Thank you for being part of this with me.

Because the hand-lettered design looks so sweet, I decided to make it into a free mobile wallpaper too. Click here to download yours, and you and me will have matching backgrounds!
